octet

How it works

From curiosity to a decision, without touching your data.

Octet is an independent referral broker. We check whether your records fit, explain the process and make introductions. Buyers set the price and license terms, and you decide whether to accept.
  1. 01 · You · a few minutes

    Estimate

Answer questions about your team, the systems you use and how long you've used them. You see an illustrative range straight away. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is binding.

  2. 02 · You and Octet

    Fit call

We confirm your answers, walk through what kind of records buyers value, and flag anything that needs a closer look, such as client contracts or regulated data. You ask anything you like.

  3. 03 · Octet

    Buyer match

Buyers' needs differ and change over time. We recommend the buyer whose current requirements fit your records, and tell you who it is before anything happens.

  4. 04 · With your go-ahead

    Introduction

We introduce you to one buyer at a time and register the referral, so you never grant the same rights twice.

  5. 05 · You and the buyer

    Review and offer

The buyer reviews your systems with you, sets the price and proposes an agreement. De-identification is typically handled by a specialist third party. Read every term with your counsel.

  6. 06 · You

    Your decision

Accept, negotiate or walk away. If you go ahead, your team runs a one-time export under the buyer's agreement and the buyer pays you under its terms.

What Octet never does

  • Ask for files, exports, passwords or logins
  • Hold or forward your company's data
  • Charge you a fee
  • Introduce you to anyone without your go-ahead
  • Promise a price, a buyer or a timeline

Good to know before you start

Don’t clean the data yourself

Hand-redacting records usually destroys the relationships that make them valuable. Leave de-identification to the specialists named in the buyer’s agreement.

Watch the exclusivity term

Fixed terms are common; perpetual ones are worth resisting. If you may sell the company, time the term to end before you do.
